Maybe there isn’t much an individual can do about reducing outside pollution, but when it comes to pollutants in your body or your home, there are a number of steps you can take to reduce these pollutants. Being aware of your environment and making healthier choices gives you a better chance of having a better quality of life and living longer. Performing air quality testing in your home is one relatively easy step you can take in this regard.

Tips to Reducing Your Exposure to Pollutants:

1. Try using vinegar and baking soda instead of scented cleansers for household cleaning.
2. Limit your use of all scented products. Stop using air fresheners and deodorizers as these just add more chemicals to your indoor air.
3. Use dryer balls instead of chemical fabric softeners.
4. Air out all new furnishings including pillows and mattresses.
5. Install an air exchanger in your home. Most homes are highly insulated and sealed too tight.
6. On bad air days try and avoid traffic and use the “recycle” setting on the car vent instead of the “fresh air” setting.
7. Eat organic produce and dairy products. Eat wild fish and range grown meats and eggs.
8. Exercising followed by a dry sauna will sweat out the toxins in your body.
9. Eating more fruits and vegetables will increase your intake of antioxidants.
10. Get rid of excess fat in your body as most chemical contaminants are stored in this fat.
11. Perform air quality testing in your home on a regular basis.
12. Install an air cleaner on your furnace to reduce dust and other airborne contaminants.
13. Try and use fans in your home instead of turning on the air conditioner.
